The student was identified on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Peekskill Middle School after officials were made aware of a social media post made over the summer was mentioned in a new post on Wednesday, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Mauricio on Facebook.
After learning of the new post, which contained a threat, Principal Jamal Lewis immediately began working with the district's security team and the Peekskill Police to address the situation, the post said.
The student who made the threat was identified and remained with security until a parent arrived at the school.
"Appropriate disciplinary actions have been assigned in accordance with our Code of Conduct," Mauricio wrote.
Officials said any threats made regarding the safety of the school community will be taken seriously, and administration will hold those that compromise the safety of any school accountable for their actions.
"Finally, please use this as a learning opportunity and speak with your children about their role in fostering a safe school environment and practicing good digital citizenship when interacting online," Mauricio said. "It is critical that they understand that their words, online posts, and actions will be taken seriously."
